Many Perspectives, One Mission

Thank you for your interest in Diversity Leadership in Action™. We are no longer accepting client engagements with individual organizations. We would like to express our profound gratitude to the clients that have partnered with us over the past twenty years. Although we are retiring our consulting practice, we are honored to continue the work of community building and leadership development through diversity, equity and inclusion action-learning programs. Below, we feature examples of this work with two of our longstanding partners. For more information about these programs, please visit: The Diversity Leaders Initiative at The Riley Institute at Furman University and Advance Kansas at Butler Community College.

“In an environment of “affective polarization” and politicized DEI, leaders must proactively develop organizational cultures built on a mission and set of values that create unity of purpose.”

The community building programs facilitated by Diversity Leadership in Action™ are designed to build unity within organizations from all sectors of society: business, education, nonprofit, faith-based and government.  These programs provide a safe space for leaders to explore the complex and sensitive challenges of leading an organization pursuing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) objectives.

Leaders learn to connect DEI to their organization’s mission and values in order to facilitate broad- based engagement.  And importantly, they work in small teams on community action projects to address real time issues and opportunities in their community.  Following are a few examples of these community action projects.

Dream Connectors / Keepers

These programs take middle school students on field trips and have professionals from various vocations go into the classroom to help students see the relevance of their coursework and assure them that there are local employers who see them as their talented workforce of the future.

Sunday Superstars

A significant part of the population, children with special needs, is frequently excluded from various opportunities. The Sunday Superstars program provides a special day and block of time each week when the children’s museum modifies its lights, sounds and programs to be more sensory friendly to children with special needs.

Camp Hope

Camp Hope is a summer evening camp for children in underserved communities that combines an educational component with personal and social responsibility, cultural awareness and health and wellness. The camp provides a safe environment to explore a variety of experiences, as well as positive interaction with law enforcement.

Momentum Bike Club

What started as a summer program to help kids who face challenging life circumstances has grown into so much more. Momentum Bike Clubs help kids strengthen their self-esteem, build relationships and get some exercise — all under the guidance of adult mentors. Having a safe place to learn some life skills while exploring their community has been a game-changer for many of the participants. MBC continues to expand and positively impact the lives of many young people.

Mobi-Rec

This mobile recreational vehicle is a van filled with recreation equipment and toys that travels to parks in underserved communities to provide opportunities for safe play and physical fitness in spaces where they are not available.

The Mixer Challenge / Over the Horizon

The Mixer Challenge and Over the Horizon are programs that bring students together from different schools as well as different racial and ethnic backgrounds to get to know each other while also working together in a learning environment.
